Johanna Riley, Dance Artist E-mail

Johanna is a 2002 graduate of the Senior Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers, with B.A. Honours in Dance from the University of Winnipeg.  Upon graduation she apprenticed for Ruth Cansfield Dance, and went on to work with Sylvain Emard Danse in Montreal.  She has enjoyed a relationship with Calgary-based choreographer Davida Monk since 2003, whose work she has performed in Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, and Toronto. Johanna is also in her fourth season as a company member with Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers.
 
    Johanna is a founding member of Young Lungs Dance Exchange in, through which she has developed skills in the roles of choreographer, performer, teacher, and producer.   Through Young Lungs she has performed the work of fellow Young Lungs members Jennifer Essex, Natasha Torres-Garner, Petra Steinert, and Renee Vandale.  She has also created several dance works, including nightmusic (2005), Time/Sand (2005), which was also presented by Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, Amicuq (2006), Falling Flight (2007), and InSight (2009).  Johanna teaches technique classes for Young Lungs, as well as for Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, and the Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers.  She has also enjoyed the role of Production Manager for several Young Lungs Dance Exchange showcases, and has served on the Young Lungs Board of Directors since 2007.
