Jennifer Essex, Dance Artist E-mail

Jennifer began performing in 1997 with the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre in Toronto where she danced works by David Earle, Charles Moulton, and Carol Anderson, among others. In 2002 she graduated from the Professional Program of Contemporary Dancers and received her BA (Hons) degree from the University of Winnipeg in 2003. For three years she performed with TRIP dance company and with Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers (WCD).

Jennifer has had the opportunity to collaborate with Delfos Danza Contemporanea in Matzatlan, Mexico performing and teaching. Independently Jennifer has performed in works by Rachel Browne and Stephanie Ballard (Dancing on the Edge 2004), Rachel Niekamp, Coral Aiken, Natasha Torres-Garner, Freya Olafson, Andree Lavergne, and in Kanata, a television special featuring Tom Jackson airing on APTN. Jennifer’s choreography has been presented by WCD and Young Lungs Dance Exchange. She has also been the choreographer for theatre productions produced by Sarasvati Productions and Theatre Serendipity.

She has worked on a commissioned pieces for the Junior Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers as well as teaching contemporary dance and developing choreography with Winnipeg high school students. Jennifer has been a contributor for The Dance Current and Dance International magazines. She is currently continuing her studies in Europe.
